Biographical Notes

Stuart Parkin

Stuart Parkin is an IBM Fellow and Manager of the Magnetoelectronics group at IBM's Almaden Research Center (San Jose, California) and director of the IBM-Stanford Spintronic Science and Applications Center. Educated at the University of Cambridge, Parkin joined IBM in 1982.  His research interests have included organic superconductors, high-temperature superconductors and, most recently, magnetic thin-film structures and spintronic materials and devices for advanced sensor, memory, and logic applications. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society and among his numerous honors are the American Physical Society's International New Materials Prize (1994) and the European Physical Society's Europhysics Prize (1997).  Parkin has authored some 350 papers and 57 issued patents.
